THE YOUNG LAWYER’S COMPLIANCE WITH LEGAL PRACTITIONERS’ REMUNERATION ORDER 2023: AN EFFECTIVE MEANS OF CURBING THE MENANCE OF FRAUDULENT PROPERTY TRANSACTIONS IN NIGERIA

Abstract


The Legal Practitioners’ (Remuneration Order for Business, Legal Services and Representation) Order, 2023 provided the scale of charges for different legal transactions including property documentations. Young lawyers play a vital role in these property transactions and constitute a large population of active legal practitioners in Nigeria. Fraudulent property transactions have been a menace in Nigeria. This paper aimed at examination of young lawyers’ compliance with the Remuneration Order and how it can effectively curb fraudulent property transactions. The paper employed source of data from the Remuneration Order, 2023, journal articles and internet materials and found that young lawyers can play a vital role in curbing fraudulent property transactions, and by complying with the Remuneration Order, they will be more financially motivated to carry on this serious task. The paper recommended more efforts to ensure compliance with the Remuneration Order, not just by young lawyers, but by all legal practitioners; more involvement of young lawyers in property transactions with the aim of curbing the menace of fraudulent property transactions in Nigeria.
