Stylistic Analysis of the Language of Politics of General Muhammadu Buhari’s Campaign Speech of 2011

Abstract


Language and style are the basic modes of communication and information.  They centre on words and utterances and focus beyond these two aspects. Stylistics is based mainly on the interpretation of a text from a linguistic perspective. The focus here is on the campaign speech of General Muhammadu Buhari of 2011. The four stylistic devices identified in this research are the main elements used to prove that every speech is stylistically inclined. They include graphology, lexical analysis, syntax and semantics. It was discovered that each of these elements function well enough to contribute to the effective use of words in speech delivery. Finally, it was discovered that each of these elements function well enough to contribute to the effective use of words in speech delivery.  It can therefore be concluded that these elements play important roles in passing the intention (message) of the speaker across to the audience or listeners
