Abstract
This research looks at implicature as a literary theory. The objectives of this research is to exray the meaning of implicature, the various types of imlpicatures. Various examples of imlpicature were used to fully explain implicature. The research design used for this work is descriptive survey research design. The theory used for is research is mythical theory. Oral interview and relevant texts were used for data collection in this reseach. The male and female teachers teaching Igbo Language at Abakaliki were used for this research. The research observed that implicature is a way of saying something without fully expressing in that sentence what is in your mind, the exact or the true meaning of that sentence. It involves making a sentence that has more than one meaning without bringing out the exact meaning of the sentence. The research observed that we have the following type of literary implicature: conventional implicature, scalar implicature, conversational implicature, generalized and particularized implicature. The above types of implicature has their root based on only two types of implicature namely: conventional and conversational implication. The researchers recommend that subsequent reseachers should look into the various critiques of the different types of implicatures. Again, further researchers should read one or more literary text and find out the literary implicatures in them.
