Abstract

The study investigates the perception of the young adults about the parenting styles of their parents. The study drew data from 288 young adults purposively selected from Edo State Senatorial District. The data were collected with the use of questionnaire and the data obtained were analysed using mean and standard deviation. The finding of the study showed that neglectful parenting cum permissive parenting were ranked above other in the study area. In addition, fathers rather than mothers were ranked to be neglectful and permissive by the young adults. The study therefore recommends that government should engage in family re-orientation, which will involve teaching the parents about appropriate parenting style.
