Integrating Tangale Traditional Medicine into Telemedicine Platforms for Holistic Healthcare Delivery
Abstract
The integration of indigenous medical knowledge into contemporary health systems has gained increasing attention as a pathway to culturally responsive and holistic care. This paper examines the potential of integrating Tangale traditional medicine into telemedicine platforms to enhance healthcare delivery in underserved and rural communities. Tangale traditional medicine, rooted in ethnobotanical knowledge, spiritual practices, and community-based healing, addresses not only physical ailments but also psychosocial and spiritual dimensions of health. Telemedicine, on the other hand, offers scalable, technology-driven solutions that improve access, continuity of care, and health information exchange. By synthesizing these two paradigms, this study explores a hybrid model of care that leverages digital health technologies while preserving the epistemological and cultural integrity of Tangale healing practices. The paper discusses key considerations for integration, including documentation of traditional knowledge, ethical governance, practitioner authentication, patient safety, and regulatory frameworks. It also highlights opportunities for collaborative care, remote consultations, digital archiving of medicinal knowledge, and improved health outcomes through culturally congruent interventions. Challenges such as intellectual property protection, standardization, and technological barriers are critically examined. The study concludes that integrating Tangale traditional medicine into telemedicine platforms can contribute to more inclusive, equitable, and holistic healthcare systems, provided that integration efforts are guided by community participation, ethical safeguards, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
