A NEW IDENTITY OF CHRISTIANITY IN THE CONTEXT OF SECAM GOLDEN JUBILEE (1969-2019)

Ferdinand Nwaigbo

Abstract

The problem raised by the SECAM Golden jubilee is how the identity of Christianity is to be lived and become fully mature in African soil; in various ecclesial communities of Africa (major seminaries, ecclesiastical institutes of higher learning, religious communities) and how it (Christianity) will acquire a new identity in the diversities of African cultures and varieties of theologies. The aim is to shape a theological identity of Christianity in the African language, religion and culture. The methodology developed in the following order: the context of SECAM Golden jubilee, a new identity of Christianity in Africa, a new edifying face of African Christianity, a new trend in African Christianity and a new awareness of culture of life in African Christianity. The article concluded that a new Pentecost is needed in order to grasp the process of inculturation as a new identity of the Church in Africa today and recommends openness to the Spirit of God at work among various people and nations. The article contributed immensely, in making explicit a new identity of Christianity in Africa, in appreciating the freshness of Christianity in the context of SECAM Golden jubilee and in knowing what the continental association, SECAM is all about.
