Abstract

The paper presents a new algebraicmethod of balancing complicated sekeltal equations of chemical reactions using theinter- reation effects of elements toform linear and simulteaneous equations. The method is capable of handling many systems of linear equations without resorting to the popular matrix method, and the use of the Gauss and Gauss-Jordan elimination methods ,or the use of MATLAB.By employing theintre-reaction effect among the elements involved in the reaction. The method is simple and easy to be understood by the students and leads the students to understand the mechanism of how the coeffecients of each compund invloved in the reaction as obtained to get a balanced chemical reaction. The paper has shown that contrary to some widely held opinion,it is possible to balance a properly set sekelton achemical reaction manuually ,no matter the number of variables involved in industrial production of some chemicals. The method uses the appearance of two,or more of the elements in more than two of the compounds to derive a set of simulteneous equations, the solutions of which gives rise to obtaining other variables involved in the chemical reaction. The paper in particular that oxygen ,as an element can be found pratically to be involved in nearly all the compounds involved in a complicated chemical reaction, and how such a situation can be efficiently handled without resorting to the use ofsoftwares which most students may not afford the resources with which to purchase them.
