CHANGE MANAGEMENT AND THE IMPACT OF VISUAL IMAGERY ON THE NATION BUILDING: CRITICAL EVALUATION OF SELECTED NOLLYWOOD FILMS

Abstract


Nigeria is a nation endowed with rich human and natural resources. One of the things that might have slowed down her level of development is corruption and the bad image associated with the country and her people. Film is a medium of communication which some individuals can utilize or explore for different purposes, advantages and disadvantages. Bearing in mind that Nigerian film industry has grown over the years to become an important phenomenon that has attracted diverse kinds of audience across the globe, it is believed that Nigerian films can serve as a possible loudspeaker for the purpose of correcting some societal vices but often times, negative attitudes such as witchcraft, occultism, violence, corruption among others seem to be over-represented and exaggerated in most of the films. And this action in retrospect project Nigerians as backward people. The researcher adopted qualitative and quantitative research methods to interrogate how Nollywood film industry can address the above issues and help in building a better country where government policies work for the benefits of the people and not vice versa as often the case. The researcher recommends that Nigerian films should be used as powerful instrument in restructuring bad ideological constructs associated with the Nigerian nation
