INTEGRATING FOREIGN LANGUAGE STUDIES IN THE HUMAN AND SOCIETAL CHANGE PROCESS IN NIGERIA

Juliana N Obieze, Marvelous Nkwocha

Abstract

Change is inevitable in every human, organizational or societal developmental process. All human beings undergo developmental stages, just like the organization or the society itself, and every human activity viewed as a contributory factor to the general national development can also be regarded as a factor in the overall change process that leads to the overall development of the society or of an organization. In this case, change is manageable. Change is said to be constant and this is because both the individual human being and the society in which he lives are bound to engage in activities that can change them either negatively or positively. Since the change process is very flexible and malleable, change can occur at any given moment of time, just as many factors, including the study of foreign languages, can be attributors or contributors to change management and process. On this backdrop, this paper is focusing on how the integration of foreign language studies in Nigeria can impact on human and societal change process and management.
