Abstract

Socio-economic and political crises are clearly evident in the society of Oyo State, Nigeria, as seen in persistent food insecurity, rising hardship, and the widespread closure of small and medium-scale businesses that sustain local livelihoods. These challenges have intensified inequality, enabling the wealthy to exploit economic conditions and gain disproportionate control over available opportunities, while the poor continue to face increasing deprivation. Consequently, the gap between the rich and the poor continues to widen, with many citizens excluded from meaningful participation in economic growth. Against this backdrop, this paper examines the extent and impact of these crises on the people of Oyo State and proposes practical solutions drawn from the biblical account of Nehemiah, including principles of self-examination, public enlightenment and engagement, the promotion of a mutual fear of God, the practice of loaning without usury (interest), and the pursuit of restoration and restitution, as pathways toward achieving sustainable socio-economic and political development in the state.
