Language Use At The Funtua Main Market
Abstract
The Funtua main market, located in the Bisije (BCGA = British Cotton Growing Association) area of Funtua, was established in 1945. (Muhammad, 69-71 and Funtua, 94). It is made up of Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and traders of other ethnic backgrounds. Food stuffs such as yam, rice, beans, coconut, gari and sweet potatoes are displayed for sale. Also available for sale are bags, shoes, clothing materials, etc. The market days —days when traders from neigbouring settlements such as Dandume, Sheme, Bakori, Marabar Yakawada, Giwa and Shika flood the market —are Mondays and Thursdays.
The market is one of the most popular markets in Katsina State, Nigeria.
