Artificial intelligence (AI) and the modernization of Igbo taboos: restoring sanity in a technically driven society

KENECHI NNAEMEKA AFUNUGO

Abstract

This study examines the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modernizing Igbo taboos, distinctly pertinent to extramarital affairs, to address the erosion of cultural values and norms in a technologically driven society. It highlights the gap in knowledge on how traditional belief systems, uniquely on conjugal integrity, can be adapted for contemporary relevance without losing their function in promoting social order. Using a mixed method approach, the study combined ethnographic research, interviews with cultural custodians, review of the extant literature on the subject matter, and AI modeling to explore how marital fidelity as ratified by the Igbo customs could be integrated into digital platforms for education and governance.
